美國時間2016年12月8日下午2點，一篇由付費訂閱媒體The Information發布的《Magic Leap背后的真相》一經面世便在互聯網上引發軒然大波。文章中主要闡述了作者Reed Albergotti親身體驗的一款Magic Leap的原型產品過于笨重的現象，質疑Magic Leap公司在融資與宣傳過程中夸大了現階段技術能達到的效果等問題。然而，文章在隨后在被各大媒體爭相報道轉發的過程中進行了大量的渲染和扭曲，事件一時變得撲朔迷離.
文章發表后，創始人兼CEO羅尼·阿伯維茨（Rony Abovitz）在此之后曾在推特（Twitter）上就此連發二十余條反駁推文。今日清晨（中國時間），CEO在公司官方網站上發表了一封公開信，針對文章中攻擊的“產品外型過于笨重”、“目前技術難以達到商品級制造水準”等問題進行了簡單回答，闡述了現階段公司的產品研發進展及下一步規劃。

在2016年馬上結束、新年即將開始之際，我給你們小小透露一下Magic Leap的幕后消息。

*備注：在《Magic Leap背后的真相》及文章作者Reed Albergotti今日的reddit問答中，他都解釋了PEQ這個大家都并不熟悉的名詞。“PEQ指的是可生產級原型機。Magic Leap在今年秋天開始制造這款機器原型，現在處在第三遍優化設計階段。在PEQ之前，這款設備并不處于可生產級別范疇，因為那時他們還不準備應用這項技術。”（PEQ stands for product equivalent. ML started making this prototype in the fall and now says it is on its third iteration. Before the PEQ, the devices were not product equivalents, because they weren’t planning to use that technology.）
從《Magic Leap背后的真相》原文以及文章作者Reed Albergotti今日的reddit問答中可以看出，作者的主要攻擊點在質疑Magic Leap現階段技術水平未達預期，原型產品過于笨重上面；并非是媒體普遍關注的“Magic Leap宣傳視頻作假”——雖然作者表示Magic Leap公司內部也曾擔心宣傳視頻會造成一定程度的誤導。

Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I wrote to you all about what’s been going on at Magic Leap. The team and I are humbled by the overwhelming interest and support for our vision and technology. All of us are pouring very long hours, heart, and soul into making something new – how we will enable your digital and physical worlds to come together in a very personal, social, and magical way.
As we near the end of 2016 and roll into a New Year, I wanted to give all of you a glimpse behind the scenes at Magic Leap.
? ? ·We have completed our first PEQ (Product Equivalent) build of our target form factor, in our new facility.
? ? ·We are about to start a much bigger PEQ run, which will exercise our supply chain and manufacturing/quality operations.
? ? ·The units we are building now are for engineering and manufacturing verification/validation testing, early reliability/quality testing, production line speed, and a bunch of other important parameters.
? ??·There is also a lot more going in our development of software, applications, cool creative experiences and overall operational readiness.
